We state in the video, “if you say you’re going to do something in the proposal mapping document it needs to be in the report”. That is not strictly true. The proposal mapping document is not required, but we very strongly recommend using it to drive your project.
The EPA plan says that the 500-word project summary “should demonstrate that the work-based project will provide sufficient opportunity for the apprentice to cover the KSBs mapped to this method”. It does not prescribe a separate KSB spreadsheet or table at this stage.
However, most training providers and EPAOs encourage (and some insist on) adding a short KSB-mapping table to the proposal because it lets the EPAO see instantly that nothing has been missed. Doing so can speed up sign-off and avoids the summary being bounced back for clarification.
So if the EPAO asks for the mapping document, include it. And even if they don’t require it, we strongly recommend completing it for yourself, outlining for each KSB how your project will evidence it. It will make writing both the proposal and the report easier if you have thought clearly about what KSBs you need to apply before you start your project.
